Yohannes and William saved from torture

On the 19th of September, 2015 a complainant Benjamin Attipoe a Public Servant at the Kete-Krachi District Assembly called our attention with the District Police Command over an issue involving two kids who where maltreated by their step father Robert Medegli who is a fisherman on an Island near Kete-Krachi. These victims Yohannes Medegli and William Medegli aged 7 and 4 lived with their mother and their step father who happens to be the accused Robert Medegli.

On the 14th of September 2015, Yohannes and William together with their step father went for fishing expedition on the Volta Lake and returned home late to the house. The kids were very hungry and then Yohannes went and stole fish head from soup kept at the kitchen. Their step father became very angry and beat both Yohannes and William severely and again put a stone in fire and placed it on the stomach of Yohannes and again put his right hand into fire.

The complainant Benjamin Attipoe went to the lake and then saw the accused and the victims on fishing expedition with wounds all over their bodies. When they were interrogated the victims told him that it was the accused which happens to be Rorbet, their step father that placed hot stone on the stomach of Yohannes, his hand into fire and again beat them. Benjamin then called for the arrest of the accused Robert Medegli, and on their way to the police Station the accused tried to bribe the complainant with the amount of GHC 50, $12 but he refused and escorted him to the police station. The victims were admitted at the hospital for a week, discharged later and handed over to PACODEP where they are being cared for and nurtured at the Village of Life Center.

The accused absconded while on bail but he resurfaced and was arrested. After investigation he was charged with the offence and sent to court. He pleaded profusely for leniency.

Court further enquired from accused if really he uses the two children in fishing. He replied yes and still pleaded for leniency.

Court further enquired if the victims attend school but accused said No.

After so much of interrogations, the court gave it ruling that the accused Robert Medegli has therefore been sentenced to a term of imprisonment for twelve (12) months without the option of fine as a deterrence. It was further ordered that the two victims be in custody of PACODEP, Village of Life Academy.
